About me

I came to enamel by accident. In my second year at Vilniaus dailės akademija, Telšiai faculty, where I am completing a Bachelor’s degree in Metal Art and Jewellery. A professor decided on a whim that our group needed a lesson in it. I had no idea what enamel was. It was completely abstract to me. Then I saw it. Then I tried it.

What I found was a flat surface that behaves like nothing else. Not carving, not shaping - just pure colour, textures, powder, and fire. I love the way the powder feels before it goes in to the kiln. I love how it transforms. I love that the kiln is not a tool but a collaborator.

It took time to understand how to bring concepts into it. For a while the medium was enough on its own, because I am still learning and improving on all it's techniques. Now Enamel feels like any other way I express myself - like doodling, like writing. Natural. And somewhere ahead of that, watch dials. Or maybe something else entirely, I can not predict the future.

The work tends to circle around the same themes - existence, scale, the strangeness of living things. The miniature format feels right for that: small objects holding large ideas.
