Cloud

The enamel was bumpy. The pencil found a nose.

Cloud was created during a pivotal moment in the artist's second year at the academy. A time of deep doubt on the brink of quitting, right before a professor's unexpected lesson on enameling changed everything. It marks the artist's very first experiment with graphite on enamel, a technique discovered not through a planned design, but by reacting directly to the physical behavior of the material.

Fresh out of the kiln, enamel cools into a glass-smooth, slippery surface that graphite particles slide right off of. To get the pencil to hold, the glass had to be stoned down and roughened up. Yet, even after stoning, baked enamel remains naturally uneven, heavy, raised, and bumpy in places. The pencil caught only on those gritty high spots, creating a natural, cloud-like texture that dictated the artwork itself. The raw, uneven enamel along the edges remains visible, keeping the memory of that early studio breakthrough alive.

From those pencil-drawn clouds, a face emerged. A big nose, unmistakably. Whether Cloud is a character drifting through a quiet story or simply a moment of pareidolia - the human brain finding a recognizable shape in random texture. The kiln set the stage, and the pencil confirmed what was already waiting in the glass.

The display stand is handmade solid pine, finished in matte black. Magnets are integrated into both the stand and the back of the piece. The artwork itself and the stand mounts to any magnetic surface. A fridge, a metal shelf, a wall panel. It goes where you put it.
