Existential Coin

Made in 2024, Existential Coin began as an experiment - wet-packed enamel on copper, fired to see what would happen. What happened on the front was something I didn't expect: the intended bright sky blue turned green.

The reverse was contra enamel, applied to protect the copper from bending. It came out of the kiln looking like the night sky. It was too beautiful to face inward. This little coin expressed its need to be double-sided.

The night sky has always been the thing. The scale of it, the silence of it, the questions it refuses to answer. That feeling has a name - existentialism, and this piece carries it on its back, literally.

The display stand is the artist's first-ever handmade pine wood stand, finished in black acrylic varnish. It was built with screws at different heights so the coin could be slid out and flipped easily. A calibration error during adjustments means the coin no longer sits with a perfect fit. The stand and the coin are sold together as a set - an honest document of early craft, imperfection included.
