Micro Cat

It started with a germ. It ended with a cat.

Microorganisms are everywhere - on your skin, on your desk, in the air between you and this screen. They are also, under a microscope, almost always round. Unremarkable in shape. Extraordinary in fact.

Micro Cat is the fourth work in the House Zoo series, and this time the zoo goes small. Very small. The cat floats in a black, water-like void — the kind of darkness that suggests depth without explaining it. No silver wire this time. The abstraction called for open space, not definition. Wet packing and pencil drawing only, the image emerging from the enamel surface with a quietness that cloisonné wouldn't allow.

The choice of subject is not ironic. Microorganisms are not the enemy. They are co-inhabitants - ancient, invisible, essential. From a blue whale to a single-celled organism drifting across your forearm, the scale of life on this planet is genuinely staggering. The cat, as always, simply observes. Unbothered. Present.
